Aftermarket replacement for EagleBurgmann M74-D
The Luwint M74D is a double mechanical seal corresponding to the EagleBurgmann M74-D family. Its central rotary assembly operates between two stationary seats, providing two sealing interfaces within a compact component arrangement.
For replacement work, both sealing ends and the complete installation length need to be checked. The seal must also suit the pump’s existing seal-fluid support system and operating conditions.

Double-seal construction: incorporates two sealing interfaces in one assembly.
Central spring arrangement: applies spring loading to the opposed rotary faces.
Separate stationary seats: allows both ends to be matched to the existing housing.
Choice of face and elastomer materials: supports selection for different process liquids and seal-support fluids.
EagleBurgmann’s M74-D is an unbalanced dual seal for plain shafts, using rotating multiple springs and a design independent of shaft rotation direction. It belongs to the manufacturer’s M7 seal family.
| Luwint model | Corresponding EagleBurgmann family |

The Luwint cross-reference identifies the corresponding replacement family. Confirm the complete dimensions, stationary-seat arrangement, drive details and materials before specifying a replacement.
The M74-D reference should not be confused with M74F-D, which is an EagleBurgmann variant incorporating a pumping screw. Features of that variant should not be assumed for the standard M74D.
| Parameter | Luwint catalogue rating |
|---|---|
| Shaft diameter | Selected sizes from 25 to 100 mm |
| Pressure | Up to 16 bar |
| Sliding speed | Up to 20 m/s |
| Temperature | −30°C to +200°C |
These are Luwint catalogue limits. Actual suitability depends on size, materials, liquid, lubrication and the pressure conditions across each sealing interface. Maximum pressure, speed and temperature do not necessarily apply simultaneously.
For a double-seal installation, provide both the process pressure and the seal-support fluid pressure. The catalogue pressure limit alone does not define the required pressure differential.
The drawing distinguishes the central rotary fitting length L1, the stationary-seat axial dimension L2, and the complete installed length L.
| Shaft diameter D | Rotary length L1 | Seat dimension L2 | Complete length L |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 mm | 38.0 mm | 11.5 mm | 61.0 mm |
| 40 mm | 42.0 mm | 14.0 mm | 70.0 mm |
| 50 mm | 43.0 mm | 15.0 mm | 73.0 mm |
| 80 mm | 56.0 mm | 18.2 mm | 92.4 mm |
For these catalogue configurations, L = L1 + 2 × L2. Do not treat L1 as the complete assembly length. Check D1, D2 and both seat housings against the selected drawing.
With suitable materials and a correctly specified seal-support arrangement, M74D can be considered for:
Chemical and general process pumps
Pulp and paper process equipment
Industrial liquid-transfer duties requiring a double seal
Low-solids, low-abrasion process applications
Selection includes the support-fluid compatibility, circulation and pressure requirements. These must be checked alongside the mechanical fit.
Faces and stationary seats: Carbon, Ceramic, Silicon Carbide (SiC), Sintered Silicon Carbide (SSiC) and Tungsten Carbide (TC).
Elastomers: Nitrile (NBR), EPDM and FKM (Viton).
Confirm the material pairing at each sealing end. Secondary seals must be compatible with the liquids they contact, including the seal-support fluid.
Contact Luwint for current availability, pricing and dispatch timing.
Send the pump make and model, original seal designation, shaft diameter, both stationary-seat dimensions, complete installed length and clear photographs. Include the process liquid, temperature, shaft speed, process pressure and seal-support system details.
Ask for the full catalogue and the dimensional drawing for your required M74D configuration.
