MX2Q Single Cartridge Mechanical Seal with Cooling Provision

Oct 22, 2026

Cartridge sealing for duties requiring external cooling support

The Luwint MX2Q combines single cartridge construction with provision for an external cooling supply. It can be considered where additional temperature control around the seal is required alongside the convenience of an assembled sleeve, gland and sealing unit.

Selection should address both the mechanical fit and the cooling arrangement. The cooling medium, connection locations, supply conditions and drainage must be matched to the specified cartridge and pump installation.

Why Choose MX2Q?

  • Integrated cartridge construction: keeps the sleeve, gland and sealing components together for installation.

  • External cooling provision: supports applications requiring additional heat management around the sealing area.

  • Single mechanical sealing interface: provides a different arrangement from the MX2D double cartridge.

  • Material options: allows the seal faces, elastomers and metal components to be selected for the process and cooling media.

Cooling and Quench Selection

Where the supplied configuration uses an atmospheric-side quench, an external medium is introduced outside the main mechanical sealing interface. Depending on the medium and application, this can help remove heat and limit deposits around the atmospheric side of the seal.

The required supply and drainage arrangement must be confirmed from the connection drawing. Specify the cooling medium, inlet temperature, pressure, flow and discharge requirements before installation.

Cooling provision does not establish a higher temperature rating by itself. Elastomer compatibility, face materials, process conditions and the effectiveness of the external supply remain part of the selection.

Installation Space

MX2Q has a longer external axial dimension than the corresponding MX2 single cartridge.

For the listed metric sizes from 24 to 70 mm, catalogue dimensions L1 and L2 are 19 mm and 48 mm. For 75 to 100 mm sizes, they are 20.5 mm and 51.5 mm.

Allow space for the cartridge, drive collar and connected pipework. Confirm seal-chamber dimensions, gland mounting details and connection access before ordering.

Typical Operating Conditions

Listed metric shaft sizes24โ€“100 mm, in selected sizes

Sliding speedBelow 35 m/s

The catalogue pressure limit applies to seal selection; it must not be used as the permitted cooling or quench supply pressure. Operating limits depend on the complete assembly and duty and do not necessarily apply simultaneously.

Materials Available

ComponentCatalogue options
Seal facesCarbon, silicon carbide (SiC), sintered silicon carbide (SSiC), tungsten carbide (TC)
ElastomersNBR, Viton, EPDM, Aflas, Kalrez
Metal parts and springsStainless steel or Hast-C, as specified

Check compatibility with both the pumped liquid and the external cooling medium.

Applications in Australia

MX2Q can be considered for chemical processing, oil and petroleum, pulp and paper, wastewater and food-processing pumps where additional seal-area cooling is required.

For applications involving deposits or crystallising leakage, confirm whether the supplied quench arrangement and selected medium can provide the required cleaning or deposit-control function.
